DIY Skeleton Wreath

Pinterest has recently “suggested” Fall skeleton wreaths on my homepage and I decided to attempt a DIY version this week.

For the record, this was my first attempt at any sort of wreath and I really underestimated how much foo foo things you need to fill out a full wreath. Most of the foo foo’s on this wreath were spare decorations from past craft store visits, but it would still be inexpensive to buy everything you need new for this project. Especially when a premade wreath costs $30-$40. This DIY Skeleton Wreath was easy and fun to make!

The materials you need for this project:
1. Small skeleton – $3.99 at A.C. Moore + 40% off
2. Ribbon x2 – $2.99 + 60% off
3. Halloween beads – $1.00
4. Wreath – $4.00 on sale at A.C. Moore
5. Baubles – $1.99-3.99 but usually on sale
6. Wire – $1.99
7. Scissors

Here’s how it went:

1. Gather assorted flowers, ribbon, decorations. Craft stores have so many decorations that are perfect for a project like this and they are usually on sale.

2. Create your bows with ribbon. Michaels has a good how-to video for ribbon bows.

3. Play with your layout before attaching any decor to the wreath. I knew I wanted the skeleton to be the focal point. Once I set that, it was easier to place things around the point.

4. Attach skeleton to the wreath using a small piece of wire.

5. Place and attach bows to the wreath.

6. Slide the flowers into place and attach if necessary. The branch wreath I bought had a lot of openings to slide the stems of the flowers into. I didn’t have to attach these pieces with wire.

7. Lay the beads across the wreath and attach them in multiple spots.

8. Hang this DIY skeleton wreath on your door and do the monster mash!

Rigby likes to get in every picture possible, as evidenced by that last picture. Even though I didn’t have many decorations to use for this wreath, I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s not over the top and it can be used as both “Fall” and “Halloween” decor. I’d love to see your DIY Fall wreath. Feel free to send me a picture!
