Entryway Table Revamp

My house in Philadelphia had a random assortment of things in the basement that had been left behind by previous tenants. The only thing worth climbing through cobwebs for was an entryway table. It was in pretty bad shape from years of rotting in a damp basement, but I saw the potential! Scroll down to find out more about this entryway table revamp.

My original intention was to sand and restain it, but after sanding a couple spots, the wood started to fall apart. The table also had a layer of veneer that peeled away almost instantly if you touched it. I took all the veneer off and let the table dry out for about a month before doing any additional work.

The wood under the veneer wasn’t very pretty so I decided to paint instead of staining. The paint strengthened the wood a bit and I didn’t have to worry about sanding off all the old stain. I used Kilz Primer before painting. This made painting SO much easier. I highly recommend this any time you have to paint over stains. After priming, I chose Sherwin Williams Sunflower for the color. It is a beautiful, rich gold that made the table pop. I also painted the knobs gold. Because of course. I almost wish I had painted them black and maybe stenciled a bee on the top of the table – buzzzzzz next time!

Unfortunately that is the only picture I have of the entryway table revamp and the knobs aren’t even straight. Oh well. Around the time I finished it, I decided to move and became more occupied with finding a new apartment rather than decorating the current apartment. However, before painting I decorated the table for both Halloween and Christmas. It was such a nice focal point in the room!

Looking at these pictures makes me excited to create a new holiday space in my current apartment! Only 14 more days until October and that means Halloween decorations! But who’s counting!?
