Mid Century Inspired Office Reveal Spring 2021 ORC

If you have found me through the One Room Challenge, welcome friend! My name is Bridget and I live in the Chicago suburbs with my fiancé, Colin, and our dog, Rigby. We bought our 1958 ranch house in December of 2019 and have had so much fun renovating it on a budget. I would describe my design style as classic and preppy with a hefty dose of mid century flair. Interested in seeing more room makeovers? Check out our first One Room Challenge space here En Suite Bathroom Renovation. In between renovations, I also post DIY crafts, gardening tips, and holiday content. Thank you for stopping by my corner of the internet. I hope you’ll stay awhile!

And just like that, 8 weeks are up and it’s time to show you our mid century inspired office reveal! Before we get into the reveal pictures, I would like to thank Linda Weinstein and Better Homes and Gardens for hosting another season of the One Room Challenge! We love the creativity and community that this event inspires! While this room makeover didn’t involve any major renovations, it was almost completely a DIY job. Everything from the desk to the upholstery was done by Colin and myself. And that makes the room feel so much more satisfying to complete! Don’t ever let budget or skills keep you from getting the room of your dreams. Before this challenge I dreamt of an office with storage, seating, and a beautiful desk. We were able to achieve all of those dreams on tight budget. But you aren’t here to listen to me talk – let’s get to the pictures!

Before

We lived with the office in this state for over a year. It was a holding place for all the things we didn’t know where to put. Poor Colin had to work in this room for 40 hours a week when the world shut down. He is a champ. As you can see, it wasn’t hard to pick a room for the Spring Challenge. We got it tidied up the month before the challenge started and the picture on the right was our true starting point 8 weeks ago.

We are so lucky to have a beautiful office space! Colin has a gorgeous handmade desk to work at, we have storage space for our mementos, and the room feels much bigger than it did before. Every part of this renovation was a DIY job. We learned how to wallpaper, upholster chairs, customize IKEA cabinets, install lighting, and build a desk. Doing all the work ourselves allowed us to get the room we envisioned within our budget. There is a good chance that we will continue adding to the office in the future, but for now it feels, looks, and functions one million times better than it did 8 weeks ago.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog to see our mid century inspired office reveal! I started this blog a couple years ago with no idea how long I would stick with it. As it turns out, Holladays at Home has turned into my favorite hobby, and I am so grateful for everyone who has taken the time to read this little blog! Speaking of grateful, we could not be more excited about how this office turned out. It was fun and challenging to work on, and we learned a lot along the way. If there is anything you would like to know more about, feel free to reach out to us! Colin loves to talk woodworking and I will talk home decor all day 🙂 Last but not least, be sure to check out all the other rooms from this season of the One Room Challenge! Until next time, thanks again for reading, Bridget & Colin.
