Olive Green Guest Room Makeover

When Colin and I heard that we would be staying home for the foreseeable future, we decided to tackle some easy house projects. The first of which is our guest room redesign! We started this project about a month ago and have slowly been getting pieces done during our weekends at home. This was a great project to work on during quarantine because we didn’t have to make a lot of purchases or run to the store multiple times to finish it. Much of the redesign involved pieces we already owned. So scroll on down to see the before and afters of this guest room makeover.

Like I mentioned in this post, the guest room was filled with mismatched furniture and items that didn’t fit elsewhere in our house. We repurposed some of the pieces, like the Ikea dresser, and switched out other things like the white bedspread, which used to be in the master bedroom. I tried to shop as little as possible during this time, but anything new is linked below. Now let’s look at some pretty pictures!

The room was so blahhhh. Hospital blue color, mismatched decor, dull trim. And speaking of trim, we did paint it. I’m usually on the “never paint wood trim” team, but this stuff was in bad shape. At some point, it was covered with a weird greenish top coat that was chipping off. There were also nail holes around all the windows from blinds of the past. We could have spent a ton of time to strip it all, sand, stain, and reseal, but honestly the trim isn’t even very pretty. If it was even slightly ornate, I may have considered not painting. But LOOK how pretty the green paint is against the bright white trim! We made a good decision!

Thanks for stopping by to see our guest room makeover! As with all projects, it isn’t quite complete and will continue to evolve as we live here. I still need to have the chair cording finished by an upholsterer, but that will happen when quarantine is over. I’d like to add some detail to the dresser. Still haven’t figured out what to do for window treatments on the smaller window. Either add another set of curtains or make a cornice with the trimmings of the curtains (which have yet to be trimmed)? And of course, the bed could use more throw pillows 🙂 But for now, this works!

We can’t wait for the time when we can have guests stay with us again. And I’m so happy that our friends will get to stay in the nicest room in the house 😉 Seriously, I’ve considered making it our master bedroom I love it so much. Maybe I’ll just paint every room in the house green?! Hope you are all staying safe and healthy. And if you are considering a small house project, now is the perfect time to bring some color into your home!
