Style Shelves for Fall
You may not have a beautiful fireplace and mantel to decorate for holidays, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a focal point for decorations in the house. You just have to create one! Today I’m writing about how to style shelves for Fall.
As a renter it’s pretty hard to come by a unit with a fireplace. I got lucky once with this gorgeous brick fireplace in Chicago. We had so much fun decorating it for various holidays.
All of my other apartments have not had a fireplace and therefore I had to create a focal point or multiple spots for decorations. Entryway tables, sparse corners, and shelves work well for this. In my current apartment, the last renters left up tons of shelves that they had glued into the wall. Insert HUGE eyeroll. Instead of ripping out the drywall to get the shelves off, (I did this to one wall, oops) I embraced the shelves. It turns out they were a great place to display my plant collection.
For Fall and Halloween, I took down a couple things and replaced them with pumpkins, skulls, and gourds. The everyday stuff gets stored in the same big holiday decor bins until it’s time to take down the holiday things – hooray for no clutter!
Shelves are a perfect place to put Fall signs too. Etsy has a lot of fun holiday themed signs right now. I love this one, this , and this. OR you could make one yourself! This is a DIY blog after all. *Makes note to write a Halloween sign blog post.
I added some paper mache pumpkins, a gold skull, a BOO sign, and mini pumpkins to my shelves. I’d consider this “minimalist” Halloween compared to the rest of my house, but it might be the perfect touch of Fall/Halloween for others! Did you style shelves for fall? I’d love to see your pictures!
