Design Inspiration for a Mamie Pink Bathroom
Our 1958 ranch house came complete with a Mamie pink bathroom. What is a Mamie pink bathroom you ask? Head on over to Save the Pink Bathrooms to find out more about this popular mid century design choice. While it may have been tre chic in 1958, it looks grimy now. Are you stuck with a blah pink bathroom too? If so, I compiled pictures below of pink bathrooms from people who made. it. work. Seriously, these bathrooms are filled with so much inspiration!
Now before pink bathroom lovers get their pitchforks and come after me, I need to clarify some facts about our bathroom. 1. The tiles are plastic. 2. The grout between the tiles has almost completely eroded. 3. The floors are asbestos tile. 4. The vanity is made of particle board. 5. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls…and it’s ugly. So there. We do have plans to renovate both bathrooms, but until we have the ca$$$h, we have to work with our pink bathroom. And looking at all the pictures below actually makes me a little excited to design around our pink bathroom!
Stencil the walls to compliment the tile
This bathroom from Red Egg Design Group is adorable. The cute stencil really brightens up the room. They added MORE pink to this room and it still works. A good example of leaning in to what you have rather than trying to cover it up. Royal Design Studio, Etsy, and craft stores have many different stencil options.
Keep your Mamie pink bathroom simple
Ohhhh heart eyes! I’m not usually one to say “paint it white,” but this was absolutely the right choice here. The towel name tags and hooks are a nice touch too. This won’t work in our bathroom because we have a greyish black vanity and black floor, but it’s still nice to look at.
Add neutral colors
This bathroom is so fun! The pattern is a little loud, but it works here. I love how they used black and white to make the pink stand out. I have seen so many pink bathrooms that have a lot of different colors going on and the end result assaults your eyes. It takes a lot for this self-declared color lover to admit that neutral is the way to go. But here I am.
Put in funky wallpaper
And last but not least – my favorite pink bathroom! I am swoooooning over this wallpaper. Colin is simultaneously giving this a big no. A girl can dream. I hope one of you gets to put amazing wallpaper in your pink bathroom. Send me a picture if you do!
The current plan for our Mamie pink bathroom is to use an idea from each of the above bathrooms. We will take out the wallpaper, paint the walls white, add some art, and put in a shower curtain that compliments the pink tile. Maybe Colin will even approve a stencil! I’m hoping that these little changes will tide us over until we can really rehab the bathroom. What pink bathroom ideas do you have? I’d love to hear them. Leave a comment below or contact me here!
