Fall 2020 ORC Week 1

The One Room Challenge is back and so are we! If you are new here, my name is Bridget, and I recently bought a 1958 ranch house with my fiancé (first time writing that- ah!), Colin. We both have full-time jobs, but our passion is bringing this house back to life. Colin and I renovated our en suite bathroom during the Spring One Room Challenge, so we thought it would be a good idea to update our bedroom for the Fall 2020 ORC! The bedroom has mostly been a mish mosh of random furniture, a paint palette because I’m incredibly indecisive, and a holding place for tools while we completed the bathroom – see below! Very blah. Very not us. We are so looking forward to having a beautiful cozy place to fall asleep in each night!

Below is the design plan for the bedroom. We will not be making any structural changes in this room, so it should be a much easier challenge than our bathroom! The only major issue in this room is the layout. The corner windows and the placement of the closet and bathroom doors really only leave one spot that the bed can go. And that spot isn’t ideal for symmetry. So those of you who need symmetry in a room should stop reading now!! There are lots of lovely bedroom makeovers happening throughout the Fall 2020 ORC and maybe this one isn’t for you 😉 But joking aside, thank you for being here – I am so grateful!

Fall 2020 ORC Checklist

1. Pick color scheme
2. Patch walls, trim, and ceiling
3. Paint walls, trim, and ceiling
4. Source rug, bedding, pillows, curtains, lighting, art, and decor
5. Build headboard and nightstands
6. Install custom built closet system
7. Find vintage dressers/mirror and update if needed
8. Install sconces
9. Install rod to hang art and curtains
10. Style bedroom
11. Photograph bedroom and edit photos

Hope I don’t jinx myself, but this list is already feeling so much easier than our Spring One Room Challenge! I learned from my past mistakes and started ordering the materials WEEKS ago. Now we should have everything on time and we won’t be holding up the Post Office while they handle some much more important items – mail-in ballots 🙂 GO VOTE!
