Master Bathroom Mood Board

When I bought this house I knew the bathrooms were going to be one of the first renovation/remodel projects that we tackled.  They are original to the house (circa 1958) and while they have been well maintained, all three are very outdated.  Today I have a master bathroom mood board that I hope will give you ideas for your bathroom renovation as well!

Master Bathroom Mood Board

Introduction

The first thing that HAS. TO. GO. is the mini tub situation happening in this bathroom.  I haven’t done any research on this design decision, but even if it is a significant time capsule, it is getting ripped out.  I’m all for saving vintage designs, but this tub isn’t practical or pretty.  What will work for us is a large walk-in shower.  Neither of us take baths and there really isn’t room to put in a full bath anyway.  We will put a bath in the guest bathroom.  Oh hi, resale value!  So this mood board definitely centers around a nice large shower and maximizing the small space.

Colin is 6’4” and surprisingly fits in this shower.  However, the shower head is anchored at a height more fitting for a person 5’5” and under.  This doesn’t work for either of us.  We will replace the shower head and get a matching sink faucet, as well as anchor the shower head higher up on the wall.  ALL OF THE TILE IN THIS BATHROOM IS PLASTIC, so don’t @ me when I rip it out and re-tile.

The floor is asbestos tile and will need to be tiled over.  The vanity will likely be replaced as well.  I definitely want to keep the cabinet hardware, but the greyish-blue faux wood and tan sink combination is awful.  There is nothing charmingly retro about it.  At the very least we will replace the sink and faucet and work around the vanity.

So there you have it.  Basically everything is getting ripped out.  The footprint will likely remain the same as it seems to make sense.  I would also like to put in square tiles similar to what is there now.  My overall goal is to update the bathroom so it works for us, while also respecting the age and style of the house.

Below is my master bathroom mood board for the renovation.  All products are linked!  I’m open to ideas and opinions, so let me know what you think by leaving a comment or contacting me on this page. You can also check out my basement remodeling ideas here.
