Steps to Renovate a Kitchen

We’re more than halfway through our kitchen project, so today I wanted to share the steps to renovate a kitchen. The process will likely look a little different for everyone, but this post should help outline the major steps you need to complete. We don’t claim to be professionals, but rather two people who have learned a lot along the way. Even if you plan to use a contractor to oversee a major kitchen renovation, you can still use this checklist to make sure things are staying on track. Let’s take a look at the steps to renovate a kitchen and how much time to expect for each step!

The timing for each step is based on a full tear out 100 square foot kitchen with an island. We did a lot of work ourselves, but the electric, plumbing, and drywall taping was done by professionals. The time for each of those steps could vary, but they should be fairly accurate. We expect the entire renovation to take about 12 weeks from start to finish because we can only complete major work on weekends. If you are hiring out all the work, your renovation could be done in a shorter time frame!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have about your own kitchen renovation! I do plan to write more detailed blog posts about some of the items on this list such as hiring a kitchen architect, countertop shopping, picking fixtures, etc. Whether you are planning to start a renovation soon or fantasize about one in the future, be sure to save these steps to renovate a kitchen. Technology is constantly changing, but you will always need to put in the work to get the kitchen of your dreams! Good luck and be sure to follow along with our renovation on Instagram!
