Year 4 Home Renovations Update

It feels wild to type out 4 years. It has gone by in a blink! This year’s list was quite extensive and even though we did not complete all the projects, I’m so impressed with what we did finish. And although it is not home related, our biggest project of 2023 was having a baby! Discovering we were pregnant with Annie on January 3rd certainly shaped our house project priorities. Below is the list we made at the beginning of the year compared to what we accomplished in our year 4 home renovations.

2023 House Projects List

  1. Kitchen renovation
  2. Finish staircase renovation
  3. Repaint dining/living room
  4. Repaint our bedroom
  5. Repaint guest bedroom
  6. Build bed frame and headboard for our bed
  7. Wallpaper pink bathroom
  8. Install grass cloth wallpaper in hallway
  9. Set up dust collection system in garage shop
  10. Repaint house exterior

There was a very big ticket item on our year 4 home renovations list this year and we finally finished it – our kitchen renovation! This has been on our project list for 2 years in a row and it feels incredible to have it done. It’s hard to guess how many hours Colin spent building our dream kitchen. From the planning and prep work, to demo and rebuilding, he put so much work and love into it. I’m thankful for our new kitchen every single day. It is the heart of our home as two people who love to cook and host friends and family. It was worth every single penny!

The entire main floor of our house was repainted this year. While the kitchen, dining room and living room were a necessity after the kitchen renovation, the guest bedroom, our bedroom, and the office (nursery) were not. They were a result of my pregnancy hormones NEEDING a change…sorry Colin! That being said, I love the changes we made and there won’t be a need to repaint for a long long time. Another cosmetic change we made this year was adding grasscloth to the hallway. We both loooove it. I still need to hang some pictures and add a runner, but it feels so much better already.

An unexpected project for 2023 was changing the office into a nursery. Like I mentioned in this post, we decided that it was important to keep a guest bedroom since half our family and friends live in the Philadelphia area. And Colin was all too happy to move his office to the basement where I will have zero design input! Designing the nursery was an escape from my own brain while I was pregnant and I hope Annie will love the storybook theme as she grows.

That’s it for our year 4 home renovations! As always, thank you for following along with us. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all for reading the blog and encouraging us along the way. We love sharing our projects and home with you. Year 5 will likely be just as busy as always. We are still finalizing our plans, so be on the lookout for a post soon! And for those interested, here are our year 1, year 2, and year 3 lists.
