Year 2 Home Renovations Update
It feels impossible that we have owned our home for 2 years now, but here we are. Like last year, I thought it would be fun to give a year 2 home renovations update. Although we didn’t accomplish what we set out to do this year, we did manage to tackle a lot of projects that have made our house feel more like our home. It’s hard to predict what the year will be like when you make these big goals. 2021 will certainly be remembered as the year we planned a wedding and got married, rather than a year we made huge improvements to the house.
2021 House Projects List
Finish main bedroomRenovate office- Install new lighting in basement
- Design and plan a KITCHEN RENOVATION
- Demo and build new kitchen
- Start vegetable garden
Continue working on the landscaping- “Customize” guest bedroom closet
Lol. Maybe we overcommitted? Maybe we didn’t expect wedding planning to take up so much time and brain power? But we certainly did not execute a kitchen renovation this year. Nor did we install new lighting in the basement, start a vegetable garden, or customize the guest bedroom closet. But we did other stuff! Lots of other stuff actually. And we hope that supply chain issues and tradesman availability will be better in 2022. High hopes, I know. Let’s take a look at some before and after pictures of our year 2 home renovations.
Office
We remodeled our office as part of the Spring One Room Challenge. If you want more pictures and details, check out this post. Almost every aspect of this room was a DIY project. From hacking IKEA cabinets to make the shelf unit, to wallpapering, to building a custom desk, to upholstering chairs. This was a labor of love, but we love how much more functional our new office is!
Main Bedroom
The bedroom is still a work in progress and may always be! I just can’t seem to find a design or layout that works in this awkward room. I love the wall color, bed frame, side tables, and rug. I don’t love the arrangement. The windows and closet doors (not pictured) really make it hard to find a nice layout. For now, this is fine.
Three Seasons Room
Before
After
The three seasons room was an unexpected project. When we decided we were not going to renovate the kitchen, we decided that we wanted to make this room more useable. It had turned into a cluttered storage area before we made these changes. This was such a busy summer and fall, but we’re so excited to use this room more in the years to come. Expect a full three seasons room blog post next Spring.
Landscaping
It’s hard to photograph all the work we’ve done in the yard. This is just a taste of our landscaping projects. For more detailed info, follow me on Instagram! I have a highlight called “Garden” that has more before and afters, as well as all the plants and flowers I have put in the garden.
Living Room
Much to Colin’s dismay, I decided to “refresh” our living room prior to the wedding. I couldn’t live another day with the awful gray color. We also hosted our rehearsal dinner at the house and this was such a blah room to walk into. I wanted our house to make an impact upon arrival! Although the living room will likely change a bit after our kitchen renovation, it feels so good to have a clean coat of white paint and art on the walls. The media shelf that Colin built also makes the room feel so much bigger. Again, expect a blog post on this in the future.
That’s it for our year 2 home renovations! As always, thank you for following along with us. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all for reading the blog and encouraging us along the way. We love sharing our projects and home with you. Year 3 is gearing up to be an exciting one. Look out for a blog post outlining the projects we hope to complete. Our plan is to get started right away in the new year, so lots of updates are coming soon!
